Description:
The Open Government Initiative (OGI) was established in 2008 by His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma shortly after assuming political power in 2007. The institution has a Presidential mandate of promoting Democracy, Human Rights, the Rule of Law and Good Governance. It serves as link between the three arms of government in addition to the Local Councils and citizens to ensure transparency, accountability and participation in governance process: ”Bringing Government Closer to the People and the People Closer to the Government” . Our core activities include the conduct of Town Hall meetings, radio/television dialogue sessions, seminar, symposia, surveys in a view to solicit citizens concerns for the intervention of decision/policy makers. The Open Government Initiative (OGI) has exemplarily conducted itself over the years in achieving optimal results in citizens engagement for the past years. However the unprecedented outbreak of the Ebola disease had forestalled some of our activities. Before the outbreak, the OGI has been engaging both local and international like minded institutions in promoting the tenets of good governance. The Open Government initiative locally work with a broad network of partnerships including the Paramount Chiefs, Tribal and Village Heads, Religious Leaders, Civil Society Organizations and the Media. Recently OGI also partners with International Business Machine (IBM), the World Bank and the global Open Government Partnership (OGP) programme with its headquarters in Washington –USA in an effort to meet the standards and promote best democratic practices in modern democracy.
